POTA Companion
RadioBum Software LLC ("RadioBum Software," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how POTA Companion handles information when you use the application.
POTA Companion is designed for amateur radio operators participating in Parks on the Air (POTA). The app provides location-based park information, current POTA activity and spotting information, and tools that allow amateur radio operators to submit information related to their POTA operations.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use information collected through POTA Companion for advertising, behavioral profiling, or cross-app tracking.
Amateur radio callsign
POTA Companion asks you to provide your amateur radio callsign. Your callsign is not used to create a RadioBum Software account, and no password is required.
POTA Companion does not require your POTA account credentials or POTA password. Your callsign may be stored locally on your device so that you do not need to enter it each time you use the app.
When you use features such as self-spotting, your callsign may be transmitted to POTA or other applicable amateur radio services as part of the information necessary to perform the requested action.
Amateur radio callsigns and information associated with amateur radio operations may already be publicly available through POTA, government licensing databases, and other amateur radio services.
Operating information
When using self-spotting or related features, you may provide information such as:
- Amateur radio callsign
- POTA park reference
- Operating frequency or band
- Operating mode
- Spot comments
- Other information necessary to submit a POTA spot
This information is transmitted only when necessary to perform the function you request. Information submitted to POTA may become publicly visible through POTA's services.
Location information
POTA Companion uses location services to provide location-dependent features, including:
- Determining your current geographic position
- Calculating your Maidenhead grid square
- Identifying nearby POTA parks
- Calculating distances to parks
- Identifying active POTA operations near your location
- Providing navigation or mapping functionality
POTA Companion requests access to location information through Apple's location services. Location information may be processed on your device and may also be used as necessary to retrieve or provide location-dependent information from external services.
POTA Companion does not use your location for advertising or tracking. You can control POTA Companion's access to location services through the privacy and location settings on your Apple devices. Disabling location access may prevent some features from functioning correctly.
POTA and other third-party services
POTA Companion communicates with third-party services to provide information and functionality. These services may include Parks on the Air (POTA) services used to retrieve park and spotting information and to submit self-spots.
When POTA Companion communicates with a third-party service, information necessary to complete your request may be transmitted to that service. This may include your callsign, park reference, operating information, spot comments, or other information associated with the requested feature.
Information submitted to or retrieved from third-party services is also subject to the privacy practices and terms of those services. RadioBum Software does not control how third-party services independently process information submitted to them.
Apple services
POTA Companion uses Apple platform services and technologies that may include location services, networking, maps, TestFlight, and other operating-system functionality.
Information handled directly by Apple is subject to Apple's own privacy policies and practices.
Data stored on your device
POTA Companion may store certain preferences and application information locally on your Apple Watch, iPhone, or other supported Apple device. This may include information such as your amateur radio callsign and application settings.
Removing POTA Companion from your device may remove locally stored application data, subject to the behavior of Apple's operating systems and backup services.
Information collected by RadioBum Software
RadioBum Software does not operate an advertising network and does not use POTA Companion to build advertising profiles.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use POTA Companion data for cross-app or cross-service tracking.
RadioBum Software may receive limited technical or diagnostic information through Apple services such as App Store Connect and TestFlight, including crash reports, performance information, installation information, and beta feedback when provided by users.
This information may be used to troubleshoot problems, improve reliability, and develop POTA Companion.
TestFlight beta testing
Beta versions of POTA Companion may be distributed using Apple's TestFlight service.
When you participate in a TestFlight beta, Apple may collect and provide RadioBum Software with certain testing information, including crash information, device and operating-system information, usage information, screenshots, and feedback you voluntarily submit through TestFlight.
TestFlight itself is operated by Apple and is subject to Apple's applicable privacy practices and terms.
Analytics and advertising
POTA Companion does not currently include third-party advertising. POTA Companion does not currently use third-party advertising SDKs or cross-app tracking technologies.
We do not sell or rent information about POTA Companion users to advertisers or data brokers.
If these practices materially change in a future version, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.
Data retention
Information stored locally by POTA Companion remains on your device until it is removed by the app, by you, or through normal operating-system behavior.
Information transmitted to third-party services such as POTA is subject to the retention practices of those services.
Diagnostic information and feedback received by RadioBum Software through Apple services may be retained for a reasonable period for troubleshooting, support, development, security, and application improvement.
Security
POTA Companion uses standard Apple networking and operating-system technologies to communicate with supported online services.
While we take reasonable steps to protect information handled by POTA Companion, no electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children's privacy
POTA Companion is intended for use in connection with amateur radio activities and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children for advertising, profiling, or similar purposes.
If we become aware that personal information has been collected inappropriately from a child, we will take reasonable steps to address the issue.
Your choices
You may control POTA Companion's access to location information through Apple's privacy settings.
You may choose not to use features that transmit information to third-party services, such as self-spotting.
You may also remove POTA Companion from your device to remove locally stored application information, subject to Apple's device and backup functionality.
Questions or requests concerning information handled directly by a third-party service should be directed to that service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as POTA Companion develops or as its features, services, or legal requirements change.
When we make changes, we will update the effective date shown at the top of this page. Material changes may also be communicated through the application, website, or other appropriate means.
